Here's just a small extract of our groundbreaking project
Institute for Agribusiness Technology and Sustainable Energy
Coordinating with both local and international educational institutions, experienced non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations and small businesses, UPGS has developed a program for an investment in renewable technology known as the IATSE project. It is designed to educate the local population by producing individuals who are:
1. Global citizens committed to local relevance.
2. Adept at solving urban problems.
3. Committed to health & wellness and food & water security.
4. Skilled at navigating diverse social, cultural, man-made and natural environments.
5. Independent thinkers and collaborative team players.
6. Adaptive lifelong learners.
Agricultural development must also address gender disparities. In Sub-Saharan Africa, women are vital contributors to farm work, but because they have less access to better techniques, technologies, and markets, yields from their plots are typically 20 to 40 percent lower than from those plots farmed by men. Addressing this gender gap can help households become more productive and reduce malnutrition within poor families.
The Institute for Agribusiness, Technology and Sustainable Energy will address these concerns by:
● Increasing farm productivity: We support a comprehensive approach to helping smallholder farmers prosper that includes access to more effective tools and farm management practices, locally relevant knowledge, emerging digital technologies, and reliable markets. We also advocate for agricultural policies that support farmers in their efforts to better feed themselves and their communities.
● Fostering sustainable agricultural practices: In an era of increasingly scarce resources and with the growing impact of climate change, we encourage farmers to embrace and adopt sustainable practices that help them grow more with less land, water, fertilizer, and other costly inputs, while preserving natural resources for future generations.
● Achieving greater impact with partners: We are committed to communicating our strategy and sharing what we’ve developed with grantees and other partners, including the private sector by our strategy of developing an education institute for agribusiness, technology and sustainable energy. Our resources, while significant, represent only a fraction of what is needed. Collaborating effectively with others maximizes our collective impact in achieving goals.
● Educate: We are dedicated towards training the local population to integrate and develop new pathways towards sustainability through creativity in the form of research and development.
